This sweet and salty dessert-y salad is perfect for the holidays with it's festive red color but it is a great companion dish for anytime of the year.
  • 2 C crushed pretzels (sticks)
  • ¾ C butter, melted
  • 3 Tbsp white sugar
  • 1 8-oz pkg cream cheese, softened
  • 1 C white sugar
  • 1 8-oz container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 2 3-oz pkgs strawberry flavored Jello
  • 2 C boiling water
  • 2 10-oz pkgs frozen strawberries
  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Stir together crushed pretzels, melted butter and 3 Tbsp sugar. Mix well and press mixture into the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish. Bake 8-10 minutes, until set. Set aside to cool.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together cream cheese and 1 C sugar. Fold in whipped topping. Spread mixture onto cooled crust.
  4. Dissolve gelatin in boiling water. Stir in still frozen strawberries and allow to set briefly. When mixture thickens, pour and spread over cream cheese layer (about 10 minutes). Refrigerate until set at least an hour.
